During cold spells, local schools are often unable to open either because the conditions are too dangerous for pupils or staff to make the journey in, or because the weather has caused heating systems to fail.
Where possible, EMA will inform parents directly if the school is forced to close. Often, however, the decision to close is taken at short notice. In these circumstances, school closures will be announced on local radio stations and will also be published in the news section of the Wirral news website.
Heart Radio has changed hands in recent years and is now part of the Global broadcasting company and, , is now a regional station, rather than a Wirral one when it was Buzz .They no longer take school closure information from schools, relying solely on Wirral Council’s website to keep up-to-date.
Radio City do still provide the service and their number has changed to 0151 472 6902-
Radio Merseyside – call their Newsroom on 0151 708 5500 and quote our DfE number 344/1102.
We will also post a notice on our website on the main page.
