Key Stage 3

The curriculum for Key Stage 3 has been redesigned to meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum for Computer Science. The aim of the new curriculum is to ensure that students are able to keep up-to-date with the Computing programs that they would be studying in mainstream schools. There will be an emphases on students learning both text-based and non-text based programming languages. The purpose of the curriculum is to provide a smooth transition back into mainstream education.

Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11 we are introducing a new course this year. The students will be studying Creative iMedia, which incorporates some elements of ICT and Media. The Creative iMedia course is popular with students due to its variety of engaging computer-based topics. It is perfectly suited to those wishing to pursue a career in iMedia/Computing. It is graded from Pass to Distinction*, a Distinction * being equivalent to an 8 level at GCSE.

The qualification will equip learners with a range of skills including;

  •          Pre-production skills used in the iMedia industry
  •          Web Design
  •          Digital Graphics
  •          Storytelling with a Comic Strip

The qualification is made up of:

25% externally assessed examination

75% internal controlled assessment (externally moderated) - 3 pieces of controlled assessments

This qualification forms part of the entry requirements for progression to further education or employment in a number of different areas related to ICT and Media.

The qualification is an appropriate part of a broad and balanced curriculum for access to further studies and/or training, with a key focus on the creative areas of the ICT industry.  Especially graphic design, website design or animation development.
