The EMA school building is actually a grade II listed building and was originally called the St. George’s School. Lots of our visitors tell us that they were pupils at the St. George’s building. The building was the first Passive Solar School and it opened in 1962 in Wallasey, Wirral. The building was designed to be used without a conventional heating system instead relying on the solar system and heat from the lighting system and body heat from the pupils. The design of the building also allowed the building to cool in the hot summers. People from all over the world come to visit the site and request tours and the opportunity to take photographs. If you search for the building on the internet you will be able to read a lot more about its design, history and the borough architect Emslie Morgan.
